Seizing on the renewed popularity of the ’90s hit sitcom Friends, a New Jersey-based travel agency has organized a Cruise with Friends Fans at Sea sailing next spring on the Celebrity Equinox.
Setting sail May 15, 2022, 500 fans of the show will be able to sail together on a weeklong sailing from Fort Lauderdale nicknamed “The One When They Went On a Cruise,” and partake in Friends-themed events, such as a “Dress as your Favorite Friend” activity, trivia contests and cooking demonstrations.
The website advertises the cruise as a chance to “eat like Joey, joke like Chandler, cook like Monica, shop like Rachel, yoga like Phoebe and dig like Ross.”
Hosted by Fana World Travel, which says the sailing is the first Friends fan cruise, the ship will visit Key West, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
The sitcom, which ran from 1994 to 2004, in recent years enjoyed a resurgence in popularity when it was streamed on Netflix in 2018, becoming one of the platform’s most-watched shows, and again when it moved to HBO Max last summer. The May 29 HBO Max special, “Friends: The Reunion,” was watched by an estimated 29% of U.S. streaming households when it launched, according to Variety.
“We love the Friends TV show and wanted to give fans an opportunity to connect and make new friends with like-minded people,” said Farah Samoo, co-founder of Fana World Travel. “The Friends reunion just made us more determined to make this happen.”
The cruise has no formal affiliation with the TV show.
