Min Lee Chasing First LPGA Tour Title, History | LPGA

Not only is Min Lee chasing her first career LPGA Tour title tomorrow at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship, but she’s also chasing history. There has never been a player to win on the Symetra Tour—Lee won the 2021 Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship on May 30—and then win on the LPGA Tour in her very next start.

“I don’t really think about making a record or breaking a record. I just try to play my game. I play well, that’s good and everything comes together,” Lee said after a 4-under 68 on moving day at Lake Merced Golf Club.

Her recent string of solid play started at the Pure Silk Championship presented by Visit Williamsburg. Lee needed a top finish as the tournament was the last event before the first reshuffle of the 2021 season. A tied for 31st result did the trick, helping her move up the LPGA Tour Priority List.

Lee carried that momentum to Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., for the Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship. The rest is history, and she could very well add to it. Three birdies in her final four holes on Saturday set up a potential date with destiny.

“After Pure Silk, that gave me a lot of confidence and relieves my stress a lot. Moving on to the Symetra Tour and winning the tournament, I was very happy and very blessed,” said Lee. “The last few years, I’ve been bumping around between LPGA and Symetra Tour. The reason why I did that is just because I want to be tougher. If you’re playing both tours, you’re very busy obviously. You’re playing Monday qualifiers, if you don’t make it you go to Symetra Tour. That’s a lot of travel and really makes my mind stronger. The last few years has trained my brain a lot and I hope it pays off.”

The confidence exhibited by Lee in the Bay Area has also received a boost from “a song playing in my head. While I was walking, I was chatting with my caddie or playing the song in my head. It was a piano song, classical music. I listen to whatever is on Spotify,” Lee said with a relaxed smile.

Lee will lead the final grouping off No. 1 tee tomorrow at 2:10 p.m. PT.
