Cosmic Gorilla serves as a gateway to adventure in Findlay Market

Down in Findlay Market there’s a place not quite like any other. You might have visited a few comic shops, but Cosmic Gorilla has a setup you must see to believe. “Me and my co-owner, Greg Newman, really wanted to create a comic book shop that could be an entry point for everybody,” said Cosmic Gorilla co-owner, Jacob Treviño. Filled with a variety of pop culture and comic-related books and merchandise, the establishment is a dream for any lover of adventure. “Our staff is really great at connecting the TV shows you watch, books you read and even music you listen to an adventure in our store,” Treviño said. With new releases every Wednesday, the team works hard to make sure comic lovers of all ages and expertise can find their way through the store’s vast inventory. “We don’t have anything else like this downtown, which is nice,” said manager Kirsten Brooks. “There’s a lot of community down here that misses because they don’t have a car, or they have small children and want a neighborhood place they can bring them to.” The store also hosts events and screenings for the community. “We do cereal and cartoons every Saturday, so that allows parents to come in with their children and watch a show or just hang out with us,” Brooks said. In addition to the swag, the back of the business doubles as a full bar. “Capes and Cloaks is our idea of where the superheroes go when they need a little bit of time off from saving the world,” Treviño said. The place serves up a variety of themed drinks that also have non-alcoholic options for kids and non-drinkers.“It’s more of a clubhouse than a traditional bar,” said Treviño. “It’s one thing to come grab a book but we wanted to have a place where you can talk about the episode you just watched or the book you just read.” Cosmic Gorilla is open every day except Tuesday, which is reserved for inventory. This summer they are hosting several events throughout the week: Wednesday Watch Parties – Watch new episodes of hit shows and have feature cocktails to go along with it. Thursday Open Mic Bard Night – Beginning June 16, visitors can come share stories of your role playing adventures. Friday Trivia Nights – Will begin in July. Saturday Morning Cartoons and Cereal Bar – Enjoy your favorite nostalgic cartoons and complimentary cereal bar. For a full schedule of hours and special events, visit their website.
