Bicycling: Was this your very first time spectating the Tour de France?

Alexander Aguiar: In 2019, My mother and I went to the Tour de France. We had a ton of fun, so there was an itch to go again (I have an itch for a 3rd time). It doesn’t damage that my mother is French. It was practical to lean on her for translations considering that I really don’t converse the language quite well. I have been to France other moments with my mother it’s also good to join with my family’s heritage.

Bicycling: Have you photographed other bicycle races or just the Tour?

Aguiar: The 2019 Tour was my 1st time photographing any form of biking. I shot it on film, and I a little bit regret not capturing it on a digital camera… which inspired me to go back for a second time. I do not shoot the races too virtually. I love cycling and obtain the Tour to be amazing, but I don’t know all the riders competing, I really do not know all the teams, and I don’t know all the stats or standings for every phase. As an alternative, I aim on embracing the celebration with an “outsider’s” level of view (whilst I like my CAAD13, I do not look at myself a biking purist).

Bicycling: When did you book your journey? Where’d you stay?

Aguiar: We resolved to go after the Tour’s route was introduced in Oct 2021. The moment we resolved on the times/places, we booked by way of AirBNB and internet sites like Resorts.com. Having said that, it was not essential to reserve lodges as early as we did. We experienced difficulties with cancellations and incorrect AirBNB listings. We had been ready to locate identical-evening rooms.

E book your vehicle and flights early. But for hotels, I suggest pre-booking the 1st 2-3 nights of the excursion and depart the rest up in the air. The initial bookings I designed weren’t as handy as they could have been and included additional driving time onto already extensive days. Points will do the job out as extensive as you have a cellular phone that can look for the net and make cell phone phone calls.

Bicycling: So you obtained all-around by car, not by bike?

Aguiar: We rented a motor vehicle at Charles De Gaulle airport when we arrived, and I would advise performing the exact. But it will make extra sense to complete the excursion by using a teach again to Paris and leaving the car at the closest rental facility. We saved about 5 several hours of driving again to Paris by accomplishing that, which feels like a big offer when you’ve been driving nonstop for 10 days.

From time to time you can park your motor vehicle specifically on the street that the cyclists use for the race. If road closures are an problem, pencil in a handful of miles of walking. There ended up various days where by we logged 8-9 miles of walking, but I believe we walked a lot more than the normal fan. Tour buses appear fantastic if you want to have the logistical get the job done taken out of the equation. I can see this being seriously useful to bigger people with young children.

Bicycling: What else would you do or not do, once more?

Aguiar: I’d like to go with my own bike or hire a bicycle that would be a game-changer. A lot of fans provide their have bikes and trip the phases, which I had a bigger appreciation for this year. Aside from the interesting component of sharing routes with the top cyclists in the earth, acquiring a bike also helps make it a ton simpler to get from your automobile to a viewing space.
